TT gauge Model railways & accessories

With a scale of 1:120, you don't need a lot of space to be able to design and build a model railway layout according to your wishes and still not have to skimp on the richness of detail. If you don't have enough space, but you don't want to give up your hobby, a model railway layout in TT gauge is a detailed and realistic solution.

Scale 1:120: This is TT gauge

This particular track was developed in 1946 in Indiana, United States by engineer Hal Joyce. It was sold by the company he founded, HP Products Co. In eastern Germany, the TT gauge was offered by Zeuke & Wegwerth, in the west by Rokal. In the GDR, model railways in TT gauge were particularly popular, which is why railways and locomotives from that time are still being developed for TT gauge. In 1993, the Saxon company Tillig Modellbahnen GmbH took over the state-owned company (VEB) of the BTTB (Berliner TT-Bahnen), which had emerged from Zeuke after nationalization in 1972, and relocated operations to Sebnitz in Saxony.

Frequently asked questions about TT modelrailways

What means “TT”?

TT written out comes from the English term "Table Top".  A model railway in TT gauge fits on a table due to the smaller space requirement and the smaller gauge than H0 model railways.

Why is TT also known as the “middle lane”?

TT model railways are smaller in scale than H0 gauge model railways, but still have more details than the next smaller N gauge in 1:160 scale.

How much space does a TT system need?

With a scale of 1:120, a detailed model railway layout the size of a tabletop or similarly large areas can be built even with limited space. Due to the smaller accessories and the smaller gauge of the TT model railway track, you can build curves with a realistic radius in your layout, for example.
