Book Bundle Offer of Chemical Tank Cars at a Special Price!
Railway Documentation - Freight Cars Book Volume 9.2 Chemical Tank Cars DB, DR and DB AG - 256 Pages - Format 21.8 × 29.7 cm Hardcover - Stefan Carstens, Harald Westermann
The second volume follows on seamlessly from Freight Car 9.1 and contains all chemical tank cars acquired and converted since 1950. In Freight Car 9.2, we present the cars built in West Germany on behalf of wagon rental companies and converted on old underframes.
This is followed by the cars procured by the chemical companies themselves – both new and converted –, the cars of the DR, and finally the last conversions of two-axle chemical tank cars at the end of the 20th century and their use up to the present day.
Model & Prototype 1/2022: Stefan Carstens - Chemical Tank Cars. Background information, model building instructions, and crafting tips.
After Stefan Carstens and Harald Westermann published Freight Cars Volumes 9.1 and 9.2 last year, Stefan Carstens now presents the first brochure from the new "Model+Prototype" series on chemical tank cars exclusively at Modellbahn Union: 132 pages brimming with detailed model-building instructions, large-format photos, original drawings, and numerous vehicle lists. The model-building section ranges from articles on painting and weathering, to simple improvements to mass-produced models, to the assembly of 3D-printed models; the range of cars extends from pot cars and tank cars from the early 20th century, to tank and chlorine cars from the 1930s and 1940s, to bottle cars built after World War II, a "thick Rommenhöller" (a German "big Rommenhöller"), and a comparatively modern Wacker tank car, which was in use in the prototype until the early 2000s. Everything is rebuilt, weathered, and skillfully presented by ten renowned model builders, some of whom have been contributing to the freight car books for more than ten years. In the prototype articles, Paul Scheller introduces the Rommenhöller company and its cars, while Stefan Carstens presents, among other things, the tank cars used by the DB, some of which were in use until the 1970s, basic information on the maintenance of tank cars, and introduces some of the over 1,000 two-axle vehicles still operated by VTG and other companies today.

Stefan Carstens (SC), together with co-authors, wrote the first freight car books in 1989. They were originally published by Tümmels Buchdruckerei und Verlag GmbH. In the mid-1990s, the printers discontinued the publishing program and the book series was also on the brink of collapse. In 1996, Stefan Carstens then moved goods wagons in volume 3 himself – with MIBA as a sales partner. The following freight car books were then published by MIBA-Verlag, later by Verlagsgruppe Bahn (VGB). After the sale of VGB, Stefan Carstens decided in 2021 to found his own publishing house: Eisenbahn Documentation Stefan Carstens. Modellbahn Union was chosen as the main sales partner for sales. With the volumes Güterwagen Volume 9.1 and 9.2 and the book Bahndienst- und Dienst Güterwagen Volume 1, 3 new publications have already appeared as of July 2023. In addition, the first brochures have been published exclusively for Modellbahn Union or are about to be published.
