Model: TT gauge DC. Steam locomotive Class A1 Flying Scotsman in LNER livery.

Prototype: The Flying Scotsman is a Class A1 steam locomotive built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at the Doncaster Works to a design by Nigel Gresley. It was used on the East Coast Main Line for express trains, notably the Flying Scotsman express from London to Edinburgh, after which it was named. The locomotive set two world records: it was the first locomotive to officially reach a speed of 100 miles per hour, and it made the longest journey by a steam locomotive without stopping. After covering 3.35 million kilometres, it was decommissioned in 1963. The Flying Scotsman achieved particular fame through its operational preservation and is often referred to as the most famous steam locomotive in the world.

Hornby is a renowned model building and model railway company. The British company was founded in 1901 by Frank Hornby and has since become the leading manufacturer of model trains, accessories and other model building items in Great Britain.
