TT Single-family house EW 65

Model: TT Gauge. Single-family house ER 65.
This kit replicates the standardized single-family house EW 65 based on a design by Wilfried Stallknecht. This house type was originally developed by the VEB Kombinat Bau Meiningen (nationally owned construction company) and is still largely preserved today. The model contains typical features of the original: a plastered facade in a color typical of the GDR, real wood doors and windows, a covered staircase, and a roof with chimneys, roof hatches, walkways, and plastic gutters.

Prototype: At the end of the 1950s, the prominent GDR architect Wilfried Stallknecht designed a series of standardized single-family houses (EW 58). The primary goal was to save materials, time, and costs in construction. The single-story, unfussy buildings featured a gable roof with a converted attic underneath. The functional room layout was planned on an almost square floor plan. Usually constructed of brick or hollow block construction, the facade was subsequently given the gray scratch plaster typical of the GDR. Further developments included variants such as the EW 65 B with a full basement and a more open floor plan, or the EW 65 B-D as an enlarged semi-detached house with a pitched roof. This building type experienced a resurgence thanks to government subsidies in the 1970s and is still widespread today. Many houses have already been completely renovated, although their original condition still requires appropriate renovation.
