Gauge 00 DC. The special model of the steam locomotive N15 King Arthur Class 741 Joyous Gard SR was developed for the 100th anniversary of the railway companies LNER, GWR, LMS and SR. It was manufactured by Hornby and is suitable for 00 gauge with a width of 16.5mm. The steam locomotive has one motor and is equipped with NEM 362 coupler pockets and English hook couplers. The lighting is not available. The company number is 741 and the length is 240 mm in 1:76 scale. The model has an 8-pin NEM 652 digital interface. It represents the SR from the UK and belongs to Era 3.

The N15 class, introduced in 1918 to a design by Robert Urie, was also known as the King Arthur class and was named after people and places associated with the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table . This class of two-cylinder, 4-6-0 passenger service steam locomotive proved to be one of the most successful during the post-grouping period of 1928-1948, with a total of 74 locomotives built. The entire class was built in a total of six batches, with the first two batches being built at the London & South Western Railway's Eastleigh works between 1918-19 and 1922-23. The first batches of locomotives, which bore the hallmarks of the Urie stovepipe chimney, Drummond's cab style and the shape of the H15 locomotive, became known as the "Urie Arthurs". After taking up the position of CME (Chief Mechanic and Engineer) for the Southern Railway, Richard Maunsell built a third batch of ten locomotives at the Eastleigh Works, which became known as the "Eastleigh Arthurs". Maunsell's charge included a small number of significant modifications, including changes in angle of attack, valve timing, funnel and blowpipe, and a general increase in boiler pressure, which greatly improved performance.

In 1924, two more batches were ordered from Scotland's North British Locomotive Company. These 30 locomotives, dubbed "Scottish Arthurs," were built to the Southern Railway's new combined loading gauge and were mated to eight-axle bogie tank locomotives that had a capacity of 5,000 imperial gallons. The last batch of 15 locomotives was built at Eastleigh between 1926-27 and received a six-axle tender with a capacity of 3,500 imperial gallons. Despite the order, the batch was never completed as the last locomotive was replaced by the Lord Nelson Class prototype. The King Arthur class proved to be one of the best designs of its time, combining reliability with impressive performance.

The introduction of electrification, along with the Lord Nelson class and eventually the Bulleid Pacific locomotives, accelerated the retirement of the N15 locomotives. "Joyous Gard" was the sixth example of the class to be built and was numbered 741. In April 1919 she left the Eastleigh depot. Over the course of its life the locomotive received various modifications such as the extensive installation of smoke deflectors and the fitting of a Lemaitre exhaust, making it one of only five locomotives in the class to receive this upgrade. Under British Railways management the locomotive became number 30741 and was withdrawn from service and scrapped in February 1956. Only one member of the class survived, a locomotive built by North British Loco which is Sir Lamiel number 777, part of the National Collection under the care of the 5305 Locomotive Association and is based on the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire.

The Hornby N15 model is fitted with a 5-pole motor which, in combination with the die-cast chassis, offers excellent traction and pulling power. The model is 8-pin DCC ready, allowing digital users to upgrade the locomotive to DCC if required.
