Prototype: In 1924/25, the DRG purchased a total of 26 six-axle low-bed wagons with a loading weight of 50 t and a load capacity of 53 t. These cars were given the numbers 12760 to 12 785 by the DRG as SSt Köln. 3 replicas followed in 1934.
8 wagons were built according to sketch 22 of the list of wagons for extraordinary transports by the Linke Hofmann works in Breslau, 5 each by the , the wagon factories Görlitz (WUMAG) and Hannover Linden (Hanomag), and 4 each by the Wismar and Beuchelt wagon factories in Grünberg (Silesia). The cars received a Kunze-Knorr brake system for each bogie, which was mounted on the ends of the bridge. The brakeman's cab therefore had to be raised and positioned above the brake.
In 1950, ten cars came to the DB and were renumbered SSt 06, and from the mid-1950s to SSt 22, with the numbers 980 131 to 980 140. The renumbering plan from 1964 still included five cars that were to be given the numbers 989 0 005 – 989 0 009, but were retired at the end of the 1960s. However, the three replicas from 1934 were still there in the mid-1970s.
Three more cars came to the DR and were given the numbers SSt 66-11-11 to 66-11-13. In 1966 the DR redesignated them as SSt 989 1502 - 989 1504, one of them was in use at least until 1974 as Uaai 993 0206.
