Model: HO gauge AC. With mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. Controlled high-efficiency propulsion with flywheel mass in the boiler. 3 axles powered. Traction tyres. Locomotive constructed mostly of metal. The dual headlights change over with the direction of travel and the smoke generator contact will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. Two red marker lights can be controlled separately in digital operation. The cab lighting can also be controlled digitally. Maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. Numerous attached metal grab irons and wiring. Minimum passable radius 360 mm. Piston rod protection tubes and brake hoses are included.
Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) class 78 tank steam locomotive (former Prussian T18). Version with three boiler superstructures (D-D-S), sandbox angular. Two-light tip signal, cab with barrel roof, water boxes riveted, turbodynamo on left, smokebox door without central locking with license plate in center, coal box with high superstructure. Road number 78 054. Locally owned in Hanover. Operating condition around 1956. Starting in 1912, the T 18 in its symmetrical design with three coupled wheelsets, two bogies, large storage tanks and a maximum speed of 100 km/h in both directions of travel was one of the most successful German tank locomotives. The 78 054, which served as the Märklin prototype, was one of the first deliveries of the T 18. Like almost all of the locomotives, it was built at the Vulcan works in Szczecin in 1916 and retained the Prussian round roof of the cab until it was withdrawn from service. However, a later major inspection resulted in the installation of a newer boiler with three boiler superstructures, and so the original appearance of the 78 054 was changed, as was the case with many other sister locomotives. The 78 054 began service as T 18 8411 Erf in the Erfurt Directorate at the Naumburg depot, where it remained until 1926/27. It then moved to the Hamburg Directorate, first to the Hamburg-Altona depot and, at the latest in 1936, to the Hamburg Berl depot. The last change of directorate was to Hanover in March 1948. There, it was in service at Bw Hannover Hgbf until 1963, when it was briefly transferred to Bw Hildesheim. However, it was soon assigned to the z-series and retired from service there shortly thereafter on July 1, 1964.
