The Rivarossi HR4400 represents a MU '73 type sleeping car of the Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) in the traditional CIWL (Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits) livery. The elegant blue and gold paintwork with the typical CIWL emblem gives the car a particularly high-quality and historically significant appearance. Prototype: The MU '73 sleeping cars were acquired by the FS in the early 1970s to modernize the growing international night train service. Although this type of carriage was primarily used in TEN livery, some examples existed in the traditional CIWL colors, which commemorated the long-standing cooperation between FS and the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. During Era IV, CIWL carriages operated on numerous cross-border services and represented comfort, luxury, and international mobility. The MU ’73 carriages in CIWL blue and gold marked an elegant transition from the classic CIWL era to the modern night train structures of Europe.
