Technologically, Zimo non-sound decoders correspond to the MS sound decoders. The identical microcontrollers and largely the same components for the power electronics (motor output stages, etc.) are installed in both product classes, and of course the software is also (further) developed jointly to a large extent. These similarities cause, among other things, the same driving behavior, the same mapping, the same script capabilities and a similar project organization, where there are sound projects for sound decoders on the one hand and projects (without sound) for non-sound decoders on the other, both of which have configuration data (essentially CV lists) as well as GUI data.
The company Zimo Elektronik was founded in Vienna in 1980. From the beginning, Zimo was engaged in the development and production of digital control systems for model railways. With the predecessor company "ZIEGLER & MAIR", the first systems were already sold in 1979. In the 1980s to 1990s many trend-setting production lines were introduced such as the digital systems "M1000" and "M2000" as well as the decoders "M4000", "M4001" and the operating controllers "M5000". From 1996 onwards, Zimo products were designed for the DCC rail signal standardised by the NMRA as well as for the MM system. In the following years, the production capacity of the company was increased and the product range expanded.
