Model: OO gauge DC. 6-piece diesel multiple unit with two motorised power cars, both digitised and with sound for an authentic operating experience. The 6-piece train features the typical blue and grey colour scheme of Pullman trains and has two motorised power cars, each equipped with a Zimo sound decoder so that each power car emits sophisticated synchronised sounds in both analogue and digital operation. The functions are complemented by the standard directional lighting, interior lighting and cab lighting with automatic switch-off when moving. In digital operation, 28 independent light and sound functions are available, including the operation of the table lights installed in each of the six cars.

Prototype: The six-car Midland Pullman units are the result of British Railways' 1955 modernisation plan and were built by Metro-Cammell in Birmingham between 1956 and 1959. The two Midland Pullman trains are part of a series of five Blue Pullman trains and were intended to herald a new era in high-speed luxury train travel. The design consists of a distinctive streamlined body profile with an eye-catching and bright "Nanking Blue" livery. With its twin 1000hp NBL/MAN engines and a top speed of 90mph, the Blue Pullman offered passengers luxurious high-speed travel with innovative new features such as air conditioning, public address system and reclining seats. Services between Manchester Central and London St Pancras began on 4 July 1960. The completion of the West Coast Main Line electrification programme in 1966 and the introduction of the new high speed electric lines from Manchester to London marked the end of Pullman services in the BR Midland region. The two sets were withdrawn from service and parked at Swindon until it was decided that they would be best used in the Western Region, where they would join the three eight-car "Western Pullman" sets already in service. During their stay at Swindon, modifications were made before they were officially transferred in March 1967. Once in service, the two former LMR sets were stationed at Bristol Bath Road. The trains operated as a 12-car train on the morning run from Bristol Temple Meads to Paddington, where they were split - one train returning to Oxford at midday, the other returning to Bristol at midday. On return to Paddington, the trains were reassembled into 12 coaches and sent back to Bristol Temple Meads in the evening. Further alterations began in December 1969, when a cosmetic overhaul was undertaken, including a refresh of the interior carpets and upholstery, and a downgrading of the first class compartments in the DMBFL and MFLRK coaches to second class. The most striking aspect of the overhaul was the application of a new livery more in keeping with the company's new image, a reversed version of the eye-catching new BR InterCity livery in blue and grey, in keeping with what has already been applied to the new Mk2 air-conditioned Pullman coaches in use on the West Coast Mainline. The BR insignia "Double Arrows" and the word "Pullman" were applied to the lower side of the car bodies. The end came in early 1973 with the introduction of the air-conditioned Mk2 fleet. There was little difference between the standards of the regular coach fleet and the Pullman units. Coupled with the fact that the trains were a one-off fleet of five carriages, with maintenance costs steadily rising, the inevitable happened on Friday 4 May 1973: The Western Region Pullman service was discontinued. The following day, a special trip was offered to enthusiasts, covering parts of the former Western Region routes on which the trains ran throughout their life.
