Model: HO gauge AC. The locomotive has an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. It also has controlled high-efficiency propulsion with a flywheel, mounted in the boiler. 5 axles powered. Traction tires. The locomotive and tender are constructed mostly of metal. A 7226 smoke unit can be installed in the locomotive. The triple headlights change over with the direction of travel. They and the smoke unit that can be installed in the locomotive will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. The cab lighting can be controlled separately in digital operation. Maintenance-free warm white LEDs are used for the lighting. There is a close coupling with a guide mechanism between the locomotive and tender and it can be adjusted for curves. The rear of the tender and the front of the locomotive have close couplers with NEM pockets and guide mechanisms. The minimum radius for operation is 360 mm / 14-3/16". Protective piston rod sleeves and brake hoses are included. Length over the buffers 26.4 cm / 10-3/8".

Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) class 38.10-40 steam locomotive with a tender. Former Prussian P8. Version with two boiler assemblies, small Wagner smoke deflectors and box tenders. Road number 38 2919. Operating condition around 1949/50. <br>
With the serial number 3676 and built in 1921, this locomotive of the class 38.10-40 was in service for many years, then converted in 1951 to go down in history as the legendary test locomotive 78 1001 in the German railway technology. As a real construction novelty, the 38 2919 shows itself to be the first to be implemented as a Märklin H0 model at the end of its service in 1950 with Heimat-Bw Regensburg. With the DRB lanterns typical of the early epoch III and the small Wagner smoke deflectors, the front is modeled. The arrangement of the boiler structures with steam dome, sandpit and feed water purifier is also closely modeled on the model. This also applies to the fine spoke wheel sets on the locomotive and tender. The predominant metal construction ensures the very good running properties of the model and its impressive tractive force is thanks to a strong motor that finds its place in the boiler. Even if the P 8 with over 3,900 units is one of the most successful locomotives in railway history and has produced many railway models, this one BR 38 must not be missing on any model railroad layout, because it has its own exciting history.
In 2009 Märklin celebrated its 150th anniversary. However, from an initially quite wide range of toys, the product range concentrated over time on the manufacture of electric railways in different gauges. The excellent quality of the products made the name Märklin synonymous with model railways worldwide. Even today, the material metal is an essential element in the manufacture of locomotives, which thereby gain additional value in addition to their proverbial reliability and performance.

Märklin H0: The majority of Märklin products are manufactured in this gauge on a scale of 1:87. Due to the high operational reliability of the Märklin H0 three-wire alternating current system, Märklin has contributed to making this gauge the most widely used in the world. All Märklin H0 locomotives have been digitally controllable as standard since 2000.

Märklin Z-gauge: Model railway enthusiasts do not only opt for Z-gauge on a scale of 1:220 when space is limited. In Europe Märklin is the only large-scale manufacturer of Z-gauge, which appeals not only to passionate layout builders but also to collectors.
