Model: OO gauge DC. James, the red locomotive with moving eyes.

Prototype: James is a red 2-6-0 steam locomotive ("Mogul" wheel arrangement) with tender number 5. James first appeared in 1946 in the second book of Reverend Wilbert Awdry's The Railway Series, entitled "Thomas the Tank Engine", and two other books in the series are dedicated to him, No. 3 "James the Red Engine" and No. 28 "James and the Diesel Engines". He pulls the red wagons on the main line. All the locomotives in the Railway Series are based on real historic locomotives; James bears a resemblance to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Class 28, a 0-6-0 tender locomotive for mixed traffic designed by George Hughes in 1912/13.

Together with Hornby and Dapol, Bachmann is one of the big three in the UK model railway market. Bachmann UK models are characterized by high attention to detail and prototypical realizations. As is usual on the English model railway market, great importance is attached to a large number of variants. In addition to model railroads, Bachmann also offers a selection of accessories and buildings based on English models.
