Model: OO gauge DC. Class 150/1 DMU diesel railcar consisting of two Northern Rail cars.

Prototype: Ten motorised luggage vans (MLVs) were built between 1959 and 1961 to provide additional luggage capacity for the marine trains that ran on the newly electrified Kent Coast Line between London and the south coast ports and connected with ferries across the English Channel. They were designed to be fully compatible with units running on the section of the south-east network between London and the ports of Kent, in particular units 4CEP and 4BEP (later Class 411 and 410 respectively).
Each MLV was also fitted with two sets of batteries which were recharged by an engine generator during operation on the electrified lines of the third track, so that the vehicles could be operated independently and away from the electrified lines, which was particularly useful when reaching the ferry ports in the south. The MLV was uncoupled from the train and could then pass through the yard to load luggage directly onto the ship, while the vehicle was recoupled at the London end of the train for the return journey.
Originally numbered S68001-S68010, with the introduction of TOPS (Total Operating Processing System) the MLVs were designated as Class 419, numbered 419001-419010. With the renumbering, the vehicles retained their original numbers on the bodywork (but without the prefix "S") and the last four digits of the new TOPS number were added to the ends of the vehicles. With the decline in shipping traffic, the vehicles were increasingly used for other services, especially for parcel and postal traffic or in ministry operations as traction engines on electrified lines. For postal traffic, two examples (nos. 419001 and 419004) were given a Royal Mail livery, but this made the vehicles an easy target for thieves. No. 419004 was robbed on the Brighton-London Bridge route in March 1989. Retirement began in 1994 and by 2004 all the vehicles had been withdrawn, although remarkably only two were lost - the other eight were preserved.
