Prototype: Due to increased train weights in express train traffic, the most influential designer in Austrian steam locomotive construction, Ing. Dr. h.c. Karl Gölsdorf built a new express locomotive in 1906 with a 1'C2' wheel arrangement. This "inverted" axle arrangement compared to the Pacific design, which was popular in many countries, made it possible to accommodate a large standing boiler with a wide grate. Together with the massive four-cylinder composite engine, a highly powerful machine was created despite the low Austrian axle load limit of only 14.5 t, which is considered by many railway enthusiasts to be the most beautiful steam locomotive in Austria.
While the first 11 engines were delivered in a wet steam version, the remaining 90 examples of this type were put into service as superheated steam locomotives of the 310 series and used by the kkStB primarily on the Northern, Franz Josef and Western Railways between Vienna and Salzburg in high-quality passenger train service used.
The "Russian glossy sheet", called "blue sheet" for short, was an alternative to primed and painted sheet metal in the early railway eras, but also an aesthetic element. It was only used in areas with high heat radiation, such as the casings of the boiler and cylinder. Black and white images suggest that locomotives of the 310 series also received "blue sheet" paneling. Colored images also support this assumption. When it comes to the color scheme, the black-painted smoke chamber cladding sets a special accent. The appearance of this exceptionally designed locomotive is very successful.
Roco
Item no.: Roco-7110012
Founded in 1960 as a manufacturer of plastic products (sand buckets, miniature military vehicles), the company is now one of the world's leading providers of model railways as an innovation leader. The first locomotives were produced in 1976. The models were characterized by precision and authenticity right from the start and established the company's reputation for quality early on.
In addition, Roco has always thought further about model railways and stimulated the industry with innovations. Over the decades, the wagons that are not shortened in length, the more prototypical tracks with less high rail profiles or the "snag-free" close couplings should be mentioned. A milestone for the future is the cutting-edge Z21 control system, which for the first time combines the virtual and real game worlds and thus raises the play value of model railways to a completely new level.
Company headquarters are in Bergheim/Salzburg. Roco has a global presence and, via Modelleisenbahn München GmbH, is a company of Modelleisenbahn Holding GmbH, which also includes the German quality manufacturer Fleischmann.
Roco relies on valuable and manual work. This is the only way to create the detailed, highly reliable and functional miniatures. Comprehensive quality management with internal and external quality assurance measures ensures that Roco locomotive and wagon owners receive the best quality and can enjoy their models for a long time. Here, too, Roco is a pioneer. The Roco factory in Arad was the first factory in the model railway industry to be certified according to ISO 9001 by the German DQS GmbH.
