Model: OO gauge DC. Mk4 passenger coach as a standard Coach B of British Rail. Equipped with interior furnishings, NEM coupler pockets, English hook couplers.
English operating instructions.

Prototype: 314 Mk4 coaches were built at the Metro-Cammell factory in Washwood Heath between 1989 and 1992. They were built specifically for use on the newly electrified East Coast Main Line with the hope that a second order would be placed for the West Coast Main Line at a later date, although this second order never materialised. The Mk4 cars featured numerous improvements over the Mk3 cars, such as push-button operated plug doors, fully sealed gears and a planned top speed of 140 km/h. Much of the Mk4 design was based on the Advanced Passenger Train. In particular, the Mk4 cars have profiled sidewalls that allow them to be tilted up to 6°, and newly installed tilting bogies.
The Mk4s entered service in 1989 and contributed to a significant increase in passenger numbers. With privatisation in 1996, all Mk4 coaches were sold to Evershot Rail Group, who have since leased them to the owner of the InterCity East Coast franchise. The franchise was initially awarded to Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) and has since been operated by National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast and London North Eastern Railway (LNER), owned by the Department for Transport.
Between October 2003 and November 2005, Bombardier Transportation began modernising the Mk4 stock on behalf of GNER, fitting new seats and introducing on-board Wi-Fi - a first for UK rail services. This modernisation programme was called "Project Mallard", named after the Mallard steam locomotive built by the London & North Eastern Railway in the 1930s, which held the world speed record for steam locomotives.
Although the Mk4 coaches have spent most of their lives on the ECML, there are plans to use them on other routes due to the introduction of the Class 800 and Class 801 IEP.
