There are many model builders who want to uncouple manually, and Kadee® offers the combination of manual uncoupler and spring installation aid. The tool has a "pointed" end for manual uncoupling of couplings No. 118 and No. 119. The other end is for other Kadee couplings. This is also suitable for installing springs.

Identical twin brothers Keith and Dale Edwards founded "Kadee Quality Products" in 1940. They were both toolmakers and engineers. They achieved success with their self-developed and patented H0 couplers, which became the de facto standard in the USA.

The 17-20 couplers were particularly popular as they fit into the standard NEM 362 coupler pockets. As a result, the couplers are increasingly being fitted to British models made by Bachmann, Dapol and Hornby. In the early 1990s the brothers split up and Dale Edwards took over the "Kadee" company. Later Keith Edwards founded the company "Micro-Trains Line" and specialised in the Nn3 and Z gauges.
